AT&T Cares lays a foundation for growth in AT&T employee volunteerism.

In July 2009, the company launched the comprehensive volunteer initiative designed to get employees engaged in community service that is meaningful to them and their communities, to create change and to stay engaged.

AT&T Cares fits employees' lifestyle and community service needs by promoting individual, group and company-wide volunteerism efforts. AT&T's main company volunteerism initiatives are in response to an employee survey that identified key areas of most importance. These areas include education, social services and the environment. These interest areas directly relate to the current company volunteerism initiatives of AT&T/JA Worldwide Job Shadow, food drives with Share Our Strength and recycling phones for Cell Phones for Soldiers.

AT&T Cares is designed to:

  • Create an interactive experience to further engage employees
  • Inspire individual commitment to volunteerism
  • Provide comprehensive and flexible volunteerism options and tools

AT&T Cares is supported by the AT&T Pioneers, one of the largest industry-sponsored volunteer organizations in the country. With the Pioneers' strong commitment and historical success in volunteerism, they are guiding the new initiative and helping employees find volunteer opportunities that best match their interests with community service needs.

The AT&T Pioneers is the industry's largest employee volunteer group in corporate America. With more than 300,000 members, AT&T Pioneers are distinguished in having one of the highest levels of retiree and employee engagement. In 2010, the AT&T Pioneers and other employees donated 9 million hours of time to community outreach activities — worth more than $192 million, based on the valuation of a volunteer hour by the Independent Sector.

AT&T employees can get involved by following some simple steps: (available through the internal company website)

  • Take the AT&T Cares Volunteer Personality Quiz (created to help volunteers identify their volunteerism traits and preferences.)
  • Review the options that best align with your "Volunteer Personality"
  • Choose one of the Volunteerism Options
  • Share your story and log Volunteer Hours

To gather input and advice from employees, the company has established the AT&T Cares Council made up of one representative, or "Volunteer Ambassador," from each Business Unit. The mission of the council is to oversee the launch and evolution of the AT&T Cares initiative, ensure departments are involved and that the platform is engaging to employees.

This initiative continues to build on the commitment of the company's enthusiastic employees and AT&T's excellent service record of giving back to the community.
